Requirements

  • ✓ A verified Merchant Center account
  • ✓ A verified Google Business Profile for each physical store location
  • ✓ Product feed already active for online listings
  • ✓ Local product inventory feed (which products are stocked at which stores)
  • ✓ Available in supported countries — US, UK, DE, FR, AU, JP, and more

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1
    Link your Business Profile
Merchant Center → Settings → Linked accounts → Business Profile → Link. Choose the Google account that owns your Business Profile.
  2. 2
    Enable Free Local Listings
Merchant Center → Growth → Manage programs → Free Local Listings → "Get started".
  3. 3
    Add a local products feed
Settings → Data sources → Add feed → Feed type: "Local products". This is your master catalog of what you sell in-store.
  4. 4
    Add a local inventory feed
Same section → Add feed → Feed type: "Local product inventory". Maps product IDs to store codes + quantity available.
  5. 5
    Verify locations
Each store code in the inventory feed must match a location in your Business Profile. Merchant Center flags mismatches.
  6. 6
    Wait for approval
Products appear in free local results within 24-72 hours after feeds are processed.

Common issues + how to fix

Business Profile not linked
Free listings need a verified Business Profile. If yours is pending, complete the postcard/phone verification first.
Store codes don't match
The store_code in your local inventory feed must exactly match the store code assigned in Business Profile.
Feed not scheduled to refresh
Local inventory changes daily — schedule the feed to fetch at least every 24 hours.
